Today, I’d like to talk about some planets in space. I love planets. Last year, my father gave me a book about planets with beautiful pictures. It was great. The book made me happy. Since then, I’ve been interested in planets.
When I talked with our science teacher, Ms. Suzuki, she said, “There are many planets in space. And they have their own features. Do you know Venus? Venus is a beautiful planet which is smaller than the Earth.” I knew the names of some planets, but I didn’t know much about them. So I wanted to know about planets more.
Last weekend, I researched the four planets which are close to the Sun. They are Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. I got data about them from books and websites. I wanted to share the data, so I made charts. Please look at these charts. Chart 1 shows the order of the four planets from the Sun. Chart 2 shows the order of their size. From these charts, we can see that Mercury is the closest to the Sun and it is the smallest of the four. From the Sun, Mars is farther than the Earth.
Of these four planets, I thought that the largest planet was Mars because it’s the farthest from the Sun. But I was not right. Mars is the second smallest planet of the four. I learned new things from making these charts. I love to learn about planets because there are many things I don’t know. In the future, I’ll continue to learn about them.
